• manager's report

The duck season finished at Jacana lodge with very good results. The season started out with our areas extremely dry, and it continued that way until the very end. As a result, we had to travel more than we'd like to find our ponds and ducks, but we stayed on ducks the entire season. In addition to our outstanding lodge food, which was just sensational this season, we also introduced lunch in the field, and this was a complete new experience for many of our guests.

We continue with our special emphasis on the blinds, we had more barrels, or "bucket blinds" than the wooden pallets than the previous year which seem to be our clients' favorites. We introduced daily shooting logs for our guests that sometimes made some interesting competition between friends in the hunting groups, since people really started keeping track of their ducks. Many nights before going to bed I had all different kind of quiet approaches from individuals that begged to have a "honey hole" the next morning. to be the winner. We hosted Chris Dorsey and his crew for the filming of a "World of Beretta" episode (look for Jacana on the Versus network this season) and Steve Smith, who will include Jacana in his Wingshooter's World book series that will debut in early 2007.

As you may know, we limit the amount of shells our guests take to the field each hunt, and according to our statistics, on 75% of the morning shoots people ran out of shells by about ten in the morning. We had similar results on our afternoon hunts. Due to the dry conditions, we were delighted to see a much higher volume of white checked pintails and rosey billed pochards this year. We have already almost 60% of the lodge booked as of this writing, so we are proud to say that Jacana will be fully booked in the 3rd year of operations in 2007 season. Even though the opening day is far ahead we just received very heavy rainfalls in the last few days and they are forecasting a small el niño for the current spring. Many of the local land owners are starting to plant corn and soybeans this week, and the rains put smiles on many faces, including ours.

We hope to see you at the SCI convention in Reno.

    Best regards
