Jacana duck season is also coming to an end. We started the season with rains heavy enough to allow us to finish the season with a great water level for our hunting area. Although the small ponds were almost dry by mid July, we were still able to provide fantastic duck hunts in the remaining ponds.
The season was very consistent from the beginning to the end. We had a predominant population of teal and pintails during May and by the beginning of June the Rosys appeared in big numbers. When the Rosys continued their migration to the North of the country, the Southern Wigeons appeared.
Compared to previous seasons we didn´t see as many Whistling Ducks as other years. On the other hand, we improved the average ducks hunted per shooter per day.
The climatic event of the year was the eruption of the volcano in our neighbour country of Chile. Even though it did not affect the hunting directly, it was a real head ache to some of our hunting groups. The dense ashes of the volcano that erupted 1.600 km Southwest from our area, wouldn’t allow the airplanes to land in Argentina. We had to re-schedule many groups and many of the local charters had to be suspended while some hunters chose to take land transportation as the best alternative. We are lucky to have all what we need to make it up to them while at the lodge and still see guests leave happy and promising to be back.
So hope to see you next year!
Best,
